Restoration work

The aim of the intervention was to restore the work to an adequate state of conservation and to re-establish the conditions of stability of the constituent materials. All the restoration interventions were carried out at the University of Urbino laboratories. The first immediate operation carried out on the reliquary was to fix the gilded film and check the parts of the gilding that were swelling, then a phase of cleaning and removal of the shellac, arrangement of the metal elements and a protective coating to keep intact the gilding.
